To ensure that its drinking water is safe, Dallas Water Utilities, the most used water system in Dallas, “tests the water 40,000 to 50,000 times every month, including tests for many more chemicals than government standards require” (City of Dallas Water Quality Report). While Dallas’ water is reported to be safe, it does contain contaminants. Most of the contaminants in the water are below the maximum level required to be safe; however, the arsenic found in the water is below the minimum requirements. This data shows that even though the quality of drinking water is reported as good, it can still have …show more content…
It either goes through the Central Regional Wastewater System (CRWS) or the Dallas Southside Water Treatment Plant to be sanitized. Once it has been cleaned, it is then returned to the Trinity River, one of Dallas’ sources for drinking water. CRWS can provide total treatment on a monthly average of 162 million gallons per day (mgd), removing up to “ninety-nine percent of conventional pollutants from raw wastewater” (Central Regional
Wastewater System). The most it can manage daily is 335 mgd with a “two-hour peak flow maximum of 405 mgd” (Central Regional Wastewater System).
All things considered, Dallas’ drinking water has proved to earn its “superior” rating in its 2015 water quality report. It exceeds the rules and guidelines of drinking water required by state and federal laws. Dallas has great water treatment systems which provides the public with purified water and cleansed water back to the reservoirs. Though its water is cleaned, it still contains a few contaminants, but it is still healthy enough to drink. Dallas continues to be recognized by the EPA for its quality water supply.
