In an article by the name of "Resistance Training Improves Mental Health" written by Amenda Ramirez and Len Kravitz, Ph.D., they claim that resistance training program can improve executive control, lead to much less chronic fatigue(tiredness), lead to improved quality of sleep, and improved cognition. That being said, a strength training program can help one be more in touch with one’s body. Meaning, that one could know one’s own strength and would not be afraid to go beyond. With one expending large amounts of energy and shedding mass quantities of calories, one would, naturally, feel tired or fatigued. Also, from the metabolic rate being increased from said expenditure, one would have to consume a large amount of food leading to fullness and thus better sleep (in theory). Because exercise helps clear the mind by helping oust anxiety and stress, one’s sleep would be more peaceful. Deeply internal aspects of the body, as mentioned, like bones can also be affected by a weight training program. In fact, In Charlie Seltzer (MD) Article, "Can Weight Lifting Increase Bone Density?” he says that studies have been published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism that supports the link between resistance/weight training and means of increasing bone …show more content…
Working out has been known to relieve stress and anxiety, but it does more than that. In the article "Resistance Training Improves Mental Health" written by Amenda Ramirez and Len Kravitz, Ph.D., they claim that resistance training program can lead to improved memory, may lessen depression, lead to less anxiety, and can lead to improved self-esteem. She also writes that because weight training improves cognition, there is most likely to be more multi-factorial adaptations in the brain involving the growth of new brain and nerve cells, an increase in neurotransmitters (chemical substance that transmit a nerve impulse across a synapse (where nerve endings come extremely close) and new brain blood vessels cause the system to be more efficient due to oxygenations and delivery systems are optimized. In fact, the final thoughts (actually under the title of “Final Thoughts”) state, “The evidence is quite impressive how resistance training can improve several major mental health issues. In addition, the research is convincing that resistance training can appreciably improve cognitive function. An exercise professional's bottom line message to clients is clear. For a mental lift, you should weight lift!” So weight lifting programs are not only for physical health, but also for the mind. The strenuous usage of hand-muscle-eye coordination helps
