There are two definitions that are presented throughout the study: Nominal measurement and operational measurement. According to Krysik and Finn (2013), “Nominal is usually a dictionary definition that helps measure a variable, and operational definition is defining a concept in terns of the procedure used to manipulate or measure it” (p.240). The study uses the work bioecological/ neurobiological disorder as a brain disease, so this variable would be able to be described to individuals in a similar way. This would be based on how an individual has a similar meaning of the word as another. Also, the construct of the research clearly stays the same during the study, because it provides the building blocks for the theory. Constructs helped provided reliable information on how ecological theories and neurobiological concepts share a similar relationship. Also, the research used a bioecological model to provide a framework for treating mental ill children, which does not affect individualized client needs (Taylor, 2003, p.42). The researcher used a ecological intervention to determine how effective medication is to the mentally ill, which we find out it is ineffective. Also, a initial intervention was conducted during the study, this explained that environmental stress could not cause a …show more content…
The study showed that the goal of the program, dependent variable, was to provide a framework of how to work effectively over time with children with disabilities and mental illnesses, which helped provide guidelines for the social worker. The researcher provided several interventions that helped provide information about how to handle each situation. Also, the independent variables are the bioecological model and the ecological intervention. The ecological intervention helped the reader understand that not all medication helps with mental illness. Also, I believe this research article was mainly a multiple component design because overtime there was different interventions and guidelines that was used throughout the study. The study used a comparison group with the notation: O1 X O2 (experimental group) and O1 O2 (comparison group). This was used because there is not a random assignment. However, the subject, the children, was already assigned to the group. Providing treatment and intervention for children recently diagnosed with a brain disorder collected the data. There was many problems with the internal validity, I think that the methods of testing really did not provide valuable effectiveness for all interventions. However, the external validity did not have any problems, based on how well readers would be able to distinguish the meaning of
