Summary This book starts with a girl named Elizabeth Thatcher who is currently a teacher working at the school where she lives. Elizabeth got a letter from her brother Jonathan, which he lives in Calgary. She opened the letter with excitement and it said, “We need teachers here to teach in Calgary. The teaching position is yours if you want it. You will have to come here to Calgary to have an interview with the superintendent.” After days of critical thinking she thought and thought if she should go to the West. The day Elizabeth arrived in Calgary, Jonathan was waiting to take her home to meet her nieces and nephew for the first time. They were very heartwarming to her and nice they were great. Mr. Higgins was the superintendent of the school Elizabeth was going to teach at. Elizabeth and Mr.Higgins had an interview and he gave Elizabeth the job. There was a problem. Mr. Higgins wanted to marry Elizabeth, she thought it was outrages. And so for revenge Mr. Higgins sent Elizabeth to a different teaching post 100 miles away from Calgary to a place called Pine Springs. Jonathan took Elizabeth to the train station where she was soon to leave but first she had to run to the store. When she came back out of the store with her things Jonathan was talking to a man. Elizabeth could not stop thinking about this man. When Elizabeth arrived in Pine Springs she soon got settled into her teacherage where she was to live. Soon school was to start and she had a lot to do to prepare for the beginning of school, which was in a couple of weeks. At first she didn’t like it there. Then she really started to love it there. But people always made fun of her that she was rich and wouldn’t survive the west. Especially without civilization. But now that she like it there she was going to stay true to her
