Even though he was given the opportunity to create a kingdom where he would become king, Washington chose to follow through with his plans to create a democratic republic where he would become president of. Washington’s leadership also helped create some of the rules of presidency and helped define the president of the United States forever. As George Washington was the first president of the United States, he was in uncharted territory and was the primary rule maker for presidency. In Kenneth T. Walsh’s article he said “his first 100 days were important because everything he did set a standard for his successors and for the country at large.” This shows how Washington had to create standards for the president. These standards that he set would be continued to be followed by most if not all presidents. Some of the standards that he set were his policies on neutrality that would be followed till world war 1, he also set the limit of the presidential terms a person can have, that was set at 2, that was followed until President franklin D Roosevelt.
