Situational irony is a literary device that occurs when expectations of something to happen, and what actually happen are in contrast to one another. One example of situational irony is when Fuenciado was dressed in fools clothes while being foolish enough to follow his friend into his very own grave site. Edgar Allan Poe makes extensive use of literary irony in many of his short stories. One example of a short story that he uses literary irony in is A Tell Tale Heart. In A Tell-Tale Heart, The narrator is a nervous and insane man, yet he claims he is calm and logical, this is Irony because the man thinks, and tells the reader that he is calm and logical, but in reality that is the opposite of what he really is, insane. Edgar Allan Poe makes extensive use of irony in many of his short stories, including A Tell-Tale Heart, and The Cask of Amontillado. Poe uses Irony in his story's to make the story being told more interesting. The types of Irony that he uses are Situational irony, a literary device that occurs when expectations of something to happen, and what actually happen are in contrast to one another, and Verbal Irony when a person's words express something contrary to truth. I enjoy both types of Irony that Poe uses in his stories because they make both the stories and the characters more
