Majority of people getting help from the government actually have jobs and need the help due the fact that minimum wage isn’t a livable wage and most recipients are trying to support a family that could include someone with either mental or physical disabilities that require extra care, or children and elders. Regarding criminals though the 1996 welfare law bans states from providing TANF, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, to people convicted of a felony for possession, use, or distribution of illegal drugs. The average livable wage in America has increased rapidly throughout the previous years meanwhile minimum wage is increasing at a much slower rate. Due to the fact that minimum wage and the livable wage aren’t increasing at the same level it makes it hard for certain families to be able to pay their everyday expenses and in return causes them to rely on government support.
