When members first got into the group, what benefits were achieved by making each girl summarize what the previous speaker said? By summarizing it showed that the members were listening to one another. Summarizing also allowed group members to get to know each other better. What skills was the worker trying to teach? Listening skills, cultural competency, non verbal cues, and respect for one another.
5. In the brainstorming session, Sandy did not let members critique ideas until everyone had finished . What were some of the reasons for this prohibition. Sandy wanted each member to have the ability to express themselves without interruption, this also allowed members to truly listen to what the other members had to say and not make assumption, it gave members the opportunity to think about their critique, and help member to control spontaneous reactions.
6. The worker decided to use a group approach to try to resolve the problems identified in this case. Do you think working with the girls individually could have achieved the same results? Why or why not? I do not believe working with the girls individually Sandy could have achieved the same goals because prior to the group membership the girls had an individual allegiance to one another, which kept them divided. Therefore the group was necessary to bring them together to have the best chance of resolving the issue and building new bonds. Moreover the group allowed the girls to see their commonalities, discuss their discrepancies
