Wind is a renewable resource that is free, clean, and abundant. In the article “Meeting the world’s energy needs entirely with wind, water, and solar power.” Delucchi, Mark A. and Mark Z. Jacobson explain, “In a world powered entirely by wind, water, and sunshine, energy could be delivered as reliably as it is today, but at a lower cost than in a business usual world”. (30). Wind energy is superior to fossil fuels like coal because coal has to come from a mine. In that mine the company owners have to pay many workers to go in and get the coal, then have to pay to ship it by truck or train to wherever it is needed to produce energy. Coal is also much more dangerous to deal with than wind energy because with coal there is always a chance of fire and in the process of mining there is always the chance of the mine collapsing and killing the people in it. Another type of fossil fuel is natural gas. Wind energy is superior to natural gas because natural gas comes from the ground and needs to be pumped out of the earth and shipped by truck to its user. This shows that because wind doesn’t need to be mined, pumped, or shipped, it is less expensive and less time consuming than natural gas. In the article “A World of Wind” Tanti, Tulsi says “As an energy resource, wind is among the most inexpensive source of clean and renewable energy available today” …show more content…
This type of wind energy is called off-shore wind energy. Off-shore wind energy is growing rapidly in almost every developed country such as the United States and China. Off-shore wind energy is exactly what its name suggests, wind turbines off the coast standing in the water. In the article “The Growth of Offshore Wind and the world” Dorothy D. Ballard explains “Offshore wind represents about two percent of global installed energy capacity, but the number is expected to increase rapidly” (3) this shows from a professional in off-shore wind energy’s stand point that the expectations of off-shore wind is high and will more than likely take off in the near future do to the fact that wind energy is becoming such an important resource and needs to keep up with the global
