Success seems to not be a feasible option, the World Fair council do everything in their power to boost attendance by cleaning the fair grounds, finishing the construction of the Ferris Wheel, and promoting the fair with foreign royalty and the president of the United States. With all these accomplishments and goals for the fair being met, the number of attendees were no where close for them to create a successful fair for all. With the economy on the verge of collapse, most people are turned off by the price of food and housing to even bother going. To make matters worse, in the middle of the fair, a storm wrecks the fair and causes irreplaceable damage to many of the attractions. Unexpectedly, this storm boosts attendance so residents can see the damage done to the fair. With this attendance boost and a booming closing ceremony honoring the assassinated Mayor Harrison, the World Fair becomes a financial success and Burnham can rest easily. A year after the World Fair had ended, rioters burnt the rest of the fair to the ground. As Burnham’s goal has finally been accomplished, I wonder how he must feel. With all the turmoil occurring at the beginning of the fair, I wonder if he believes it was all worth it in hindsight.
