The civil rights movement created a huge step forward for African-Americans in ways many people used to make happen. It’s also known as one the biggest movements in history, involving several thousand African Americans. Not only was the civil rights movement the time for the African-Americans to have their rights as any human being should have, it was also the time that the whites realized that no matter what color of skin a human had, everyone was equal. Several thousands of African-Americans united in one massive march forward, whilst being led by Martin Luther King Jr., to gain their own rights. As they united, they were able to earn their freedoms back. The Civil Rights Movement finally made blacks and whites come together. The movement really began to start when a woman named Rosa Parks had been arrested after refusing to give up her seat on the bus to a white man. The site www.biography.com informs that, “Her refusal to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama bus spurred a city-wide boycott.” When Rosa Parks had been arrested, many people were furious about her being arrested. So they decided to boycott the city buses which means they refused to ride them. While reading a section of the site www.biography.com, it states “When an African-American passenger boarded the bus, they had to get on at the front to pay their fare and then get off and reboard the bus at the back door.” This is exactly what Rosa Parks would have done if she didn’t refuse to give up her seat.
