Pinging Google
The first step in the assignment was to open a shell prompt and attempt to ping google.com. I was able to open a shell prompt and complete this task with no issues. The assignment mentions that if SELINUX I would be unable to complete this task. Upon completion of this task, I verified the status of SELIINUX using the sestatus command. Even though the status showed enabled, I was still able to complete the task with no issues. wget and rpm commands
The next step in the assignment was to use the wget command from the shell prompt to download the nmap utility followed by using the rpm command to install the package on the test machine. I had no issues using the wget command to download the nmap installation. As seen from the screenshots, I was able to download the file to my computer and view it in the working directory using the ls -lrt …show more content…
After examining the man ps and man kill screens, I was able to successfully accomplish this. In order to get a better picture of all of the processes on the system, I used the ps aux command as a simple ps command only shows the processes associated with the current user session. Using the ps aux command reveals processes by all users (Ellingwood, 2013). I found the top command to be useful as well to identify processes. I actually preferred the layout of the top command to the ps command and would most likely use it far more
