However, one question remains, does ethnicity and culture contribute to youth violence? Different ethnic groups get picked first every time there is a crime or violent action being committed. High risk neighborhoods and races in those neighborhoods have been studied for years. Research was conducted in Chicago on ethnic and racial disparities in youth violence in the United States. They specifically looked at African American, white and Hispanic ethnic groups crime rate. This Project of Human Development of Chicago Neighborhoods interviewed 3,000 African American, white and Latinos from the ages of eight to twenty-five between 1994 to 2002. They found that an African American most likely to be involved in violence was eighty-five percent higher than for whites. Society is not explaining the gap between the violence being portrayed.
Lifestyles could be another reason why there is youth violence among different neighborhoods where the majority of people are either black, white or hispanic. With so many new social medias added to our culture such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other networks based to help people interact with each other, there have been many incidents. Incidents have caused suicide and other forms of bullying to teens or people in general, making the internet dangerous. Anyone can go on the internet or a social media site and write or publish anything about anyone that may be private and could emotionally hurt them, which could lead them to hurt themselves. Bullying is one of the leading causes of suicide especially in teenagers. It has gone to its extreme!
