Throughout this movie, I had to pay astute attention to be able to follow the sequence of events, which is not something I am accustomed to. In the end, though I thought I knew what had happened, until I read the English description on the back of the DVD case, and realized I was completely lost. I tried to not to read the subtitles word for word, and it proved a challenge Going into this, I assumed that it would not be too difficult to follow, if I observed the scenery and people’s expressions.…
Animal Testing- English Speech I have always felt passionately about animal rights and in particular animal testing. I am therefore here to convince all of you to oppose, stop and disengage from the cruel, detrimental and unnecessary animal testing. The lipstick, the blusher and the mascara we use has poisoned hundreds of thousands of innocent animals. The hairspray, the hair gel and the perfume we use has blinded hundreds of thousands of innocent and defenseless animals. The toothpaste, the…
I am very thankful for taking this course as I feel I have vastly improved in multiple areas of my communication. I had never taken a course that involved writing a paper and then presenting a speech on it to the class. It was either one or the other, not both. That is what intrigued me to take this course before the semester started. For myself great strides were made in my ability to convince readers through the toulmin model, learned in this course. Help was received along the way…
Practicing in front of a mirror over and over again will also help me memorize my speech more instead of relying on my note card as often, giving me more confidence while speaking. I tend to use my note card as a comforting thing when I get nervous and forget what I am about to say. It gives me the chance to collect my thoughts and remember what I was going to say as well as staying on track of where I was going in my speech. I need to learn how to talk at a slower rate when giving my speeches…
considers Gikuyu as the language of his community, culture, and work. Later, due to the English colonization in Africa, he went to a “colonial school” where he was forced to learn English. In Kenya, English became the dominant language and if anyone was caught speaking their native language; they would be punished. The author discusses three aspects of language communication. These are language of real life, speech, and writing…
As an ESL student, and an introverted person, speaking in public is always a huge challenge for me. In fact, if Speech Communication is not a required course for every student, I think I would never enroll in this course. Nevertheless, during the process of taking this course, I realized that I have learned a lot, and this course is not so burdensome than I thought before, on the contrary, it is quite interesting to listen to other classmates’ speeches, and giving my own speeches in front of a…
used to a student’s regular style of presentation, but I was to stand before them and prove myself. This was a test eight years in the making, demanding the all of my writing and speaking abilities for a short thirty seconds. As I stood backstage, my speech echoed in my memory; it was nothing grand, but I was happy with its prose. The presenters before me walked off-stage to mild applause. I waited three seconds, composed my breath, and walked out to a spotlight turned my way. All five hundred…
I cannot believe that is has already been four weeks—four weeks of constant arduous work that keeps expanding my mind in dimensions I have never sought for before. This past week, it was the dimension of speech writing, the layer I have never thought I would be able to achieve because I am a terrible writer… Initially, I planned on writing about slavery as if I lived in the 19th century as a slave owner coming to a realization of how slaves impede the growth of this country morally.…
Final Speech Evaluation My experience in the the class was a lot better than I had expected. I really had big fear talking in front of people. First of all, even though I live in the U.S. For 18 years, I couldn 't be comfortable speaking in front of people in English, is my second language. Second, I am just scared of being center of attention. But the class setting was doing big favor to me. It was small class so I didn 't have to speech to 50 people. And the teacher, Mr. Sebern and…
Spanish more fluently than any of my other classmates, which made me so proud of myself. This soon changed when I began second grade in the fall of 2006. What I recall the most of that year is my experience of learning a whole new language which was English. The first few weeks of…
