Introduction to Flashcard Exchange
This page serves as an introduction to the Flashcard Exchange web site for people just getting started. Most of the web site is fairly intuitive so you should also be able to jump right in without too much reading. You can also consult our help section with specific questions.
Make your own flashcards
Creating flashcards is as easy as visiting the create flashcards page and following the instructions. Specifically, you can:
- Create an unlimited number of flashcards.
- Create flashcards in any language.
- Make your flashcards available to the web site community (see tags).
- Import flashcards from text files and Microsoft Excel.
- Create flashcards with images. Currently jpegs can be used for image flashcards.
- Create audio flashcards. Currently mp3 files can be used for audio flashcards.
- Include a “hint” to assist in the study process.

Study online
We have a comprehensive and robust on-line study tool. You can study any flashcard in the system without having to logging in.

To get started studying search for flashcards using the search box at the top left.
Special study features:
- View cards in random order or the order set by the flashcard author.
- Study either side of the flashcard first, quizzing yourself on the reverse side (i.e. show the answer and guess the question).
- Change the font face and font size when studying.
- Use access keys (keyboard shortcuts) to speed up the study session.
- After a study session continue by studying only those flashcards answered incorrectly.
- Use slide show mode to be automatically shown each flashcard at a set interval.
- Automatically monitor the time spent studying.
- Play a game of memory!
- Study off-line.
- Have your flashcards spoken to you by the computer
- Full members can study on your PDA.
- Full members can also use the advanced Leitner study techniques.
Printable Flashcards
View sample printouts. Make sure to change the options around to see what you can do!
Our system can generate high-quality, cross-platform PDF printouts, as well as html printouts and a basic print list for any flashcard in the library. This feature is available for full members. Specifically you can:
- Print on different paper sizes: US Letter, a4, US Legal, etc.
- Use card stock for high quality, back-to-back printing.
- Print questions only, answers only, or both questions and answers (one pageful of each every other page).
- Choose font, font size, font color and text alignment.
- Choose number of rows and columns shown per page. This will change the size of your flashcards.
- Add or remove flashcard border and choose border color.
