After Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas in 1492 and the first circumnavigation of the world by Juan Sebastian Elcano and Ferdinand Magellan in 1521, expeditions led by conquistadors in the 16th century established trading routes linking Europe with all these areas.

Hernan Cortez was an ambitious conquistador who embarked from Cuba with 600 men on a trip to what is now present day Mexico. He later came across the Aztec Empire and was able to take over the vast empire and took them of their fortunes. Francisco was a very sly and clever conquistador. 1532 He played the Inca against each other and conquered their empire by 1533. Pizarro was later killed by a former rivals son in 1541.
The conquistadors took many different roles, including religious leader, harem keeper, King or Queen, deserter and warrior. Most religious leaders were catholic.Catholic priests taught soldiers how to read,write and count and even wrote letters for them. A harem keeper is a man who kept many wives around as he would venture through the seas.

They were on a search for gold and they also heard rumors of undiscovered land. They actually gave more to finding gold and fighting than authority. These colonies were some of the few places where conquistadors arrived to or settled at in the Americas. These places were basically the same as the towns of Europe, except that they had to deal with problems, such as lack of food, water, or other resources needed for survival. They also came across the dangers of natives, but, they didn’t think it was that big of a problem, since the colonies had troops that were more armed than the native warriors that had stone, wood or obsidian weapons.
A positive effect of the conquistadors going into the New World was the exploration of the Americas, as well as the new riches brought back to Europe. Another positive effect was that this led to the colonization of the Americas, and the United States being formed. A negative effect was that the natives of the area were killed and driven out during and after the conquistadors were in the Americas, which led to the Trail of Tears when the US expanded with thoughts of Manifest Destiny into Native American
