Summary: Jocelyn shows dysfunction deviance distress, however she does not show the danger part of the 4 D’s. Jocelyn therapist had to go through a lot of consideration in determining if she was going to report the rape to authorities or not. Cognitive therapy would assist Jocelyn in many ways.
The first example is how deviance is explained in Jocelyn’s case. The ways that Jocelyn shows deviance is in the way that she cannot study at the library because she's afraid of walking home by yourself, or the way that she reacts to people startling her. Cognitive therapy is commonly used to help with trauma. The trauma would be the rape that Jocelyn experienced. I feel as though cognitive therapy would really help Jocelyn deal with the trauma that she experienced. The trauma will not just go away like she hoped that it would. this trauma also caused unknown issues that Jocelyn did not think of. After Jocelyn the accepted that the rape changed her and cause all of these symptoms of PTSD she then could try and work through these with a therapist. This would be very beneficial because cognitive therapy focuses on changing feelings about certain things.
