I am happy to announce that the Houston Astros have developed three separate ticket plans for the upcoming season. We must consider several things when determining our pricing structure. As an organization, we need to be cognizant that there are many different kinds of fans, therefore, the design of the ticket structure must reach out to these varied types of customers. Some fans will come for day games while others will only attend weekend games. Additional supporters may only attend games once or twice a year, while others will come several times during the season. We strive to have a ticket package for everyone’s convenience, and therefore, have season ticket plans, package plans and single game tickets. Obviously, we would like to sell as many tickets as possible at all levels; however, we must also make the process of purchasing tickets a hassle-free experience. Season ticket holders will be offered a choice of seats for all 81 home games. They can choose the same seat for all of the games or be given the option of choosing different seats for different games. The pricing structure will be the base price for a particular seat with a discount for the purchase. The actual price of the season ticket plan will be determined by which seats are chosen, and the seat price is determined by proximity to the field …show more content…
Factors such as weather, the day of the week, who the opponent is and the starting pitcher can all impact attendance (Dunne). The flexibility in the pricing structure of single game tickets has to be adjustable. Reducing prices when weather is imminent and raising prices slightly when a star player is expected to play is something we must consider. This type of dynamic pricing can increase our revenue (Dunne). However, the organization needs to encourage fans to purchase in advance by offering discounted seats. A commonality throughout professional football is that teams and their owners love new and enormous stadiums. In the 1950’s and the early days of professional football, stadiums were privately owned playing facilities designed to stay away from public finance (Swindell, Rosentraub, 1998, p. 11). Soon enough, with the growth in popularity of football, it became more common for teams to utilize resources of the state and local government and build publicly funded facilities (Swindell, Rosentraub, 1998, p. 11). NFL Teams can now “convince” the public to pay for the multi-million dollar facilities that they want even though it could have a negative impact on the community. Owners can do this by threatening to leave, expressing economic potential, and promoting the effects on team performance.…

The UCLA men’s basketball team romped its way to victory Saturday night in front of thousands of empty blue seats. Entire sections of Pauley Pavilion sat largely uninhabited – a blessing to the clean-up crew, to be sure – but one sparsely populated area of the crowd stood out most: the student section. There’s little reason to blame the midterm-trodden students who didn’t make an appearance over the weekend. For one, this is not a good basketball team. For another, UCLA does little to actively encourage attendance from some of its most avid fans.…

The study completes an empirical analysis to help professional teams adjust prices to directly capture the amount a fan is willing to pay.
