Abraham Maslow once said, “One 's only failure is failing to live up to one 's own possibilities”. Maslow is saying, the only failure in one’s life is not being the best they can be. You make your own future, it’s not laid out for you. No one can make you great, you have to be great on your own. Abraham Maslow was a humanistic psychologist who is responsible for the Hierarchy of Needs. The highest psychological need of Maslow’s Hierarchy is self-actualization. According to Maslow, self-actualization is striving to become what one is capable of being. He believes this is the thing that separates humans from other animals.
Maslow believes the thing in life that motivates us as humans is personal growth. This involves being the best we can be at everything and always challenging ourselves. Maslow believed self-actualization is as important as fulfilling the need of hunger. Self-actualization is what strives us to become singer, authors, doctors, and even officials, but it also keeps us there. I haven’t come close to reaching self-actualization, I’m just now beginning the journey of fulfilling my life goals. I hate to admit it, but honestly I have spent most of my life being “tried and true”, playing it safe, and not taking very many risks. I hope as I grow older I become more adventurous and take more risks. I want to do crazy and spontaneous things, but I also want to finish school, settle down and have a family one day. I hope when I become old and gray, I can look back on my life and be happy with the way I lived it. I don’t want to have any regrets or wish I had done that crazy thing 60 years ago.
