This article was interesting to me because it taught me that even minor aspects could have a huge impact on a show and whether it will succeed or tank. I thought it was interesting that the time slot of a show can have a heavy impact on viewers and ratings. Thursday night is a popular night for TV already, ABC has some of their most popular hits such as Grey’s Anatomy which has , NBC has the NFL games, like the article pointed out and Fox now has this family drama to get thrown into the mix. This article put in perspective how important picking the right time and day to hit their target audience would be. Another interesting aspect that caught my eye when scrolling through the article headlines was ‘Fox’s Pitch’. In the article Eggerton noted how Fox had a “heft marketing campaign” for this program and I do remember seeing a lot of commercials leading up to the date of the premiere. The theory known as Agenda Setting can relate to this article. The definition of Agenda Setting theory is that it focuses on the news and media, which ultimately sets the agenda for viewers. News and media is everywhere, the nature and content has changed and overall is typically applied to news coverage. According to this theory, media doesn’t tell us what to think but what to think about. This article focuses on the PTC urging Fox’s programming to “draw more viewers to a show and insure its survival and success,” (Eggerton, 2016, para 1). Basically PTC’s actions in this article are acting as agenda setters for ensuring success of this the show. They are trying to push this drama on their target audience because they feel this show is one of the only high quality family shows available for families right now.
