In the United States the legal BAC limit for driving under the influence is a 0.08 BAC. In 2016 about 10,075 people died due to drunk driving. According to Nicola Starkey and Samuel Charlton in article” The effects of moderate alcohol concentrations on driving and cognitive performance during ascending and descending blood alcohol concentrations” published in Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical & Experimental. (Jul. 2014) 61 participants received a medium BAC of 0.05 mg/ml or high BAC 0.08 mg/ml dose of alcohol. Results show that their level of intoxication were poorly related to their actual BAC levels and various aspects of driving and cognitive performance worsened during descending BACs.
