Amongst all the refugee camps, there was such an enormous extent of filth that no person could stay there for more than five minutes. Whenever Mumtaz Mufti and Khawaja Muhammad Shafi Dehlavi felt like eating lunch, they would come to my office.
My announcing booth was completely air tight and I had used craft paper to seal the windows and doors. One of the windows had a twofold quilt crammed into it and a door had been encased by a thick chintz quilt. There was only a small door in order to move inside or outside and the lunch could be eaten contentedly in this booth, as the stench that came here from outside was less.

A young man whose table use to stand between me and Agha Shereen and who at the time of intermission would read magazines instead of eating food, and who had recently changed his name from Muhammad Shafi to Salim Chaudhry, suddenly became a bit frenzied. His ten to twelve relatives had been martyred near the river bias and he usually remained quiet. After hearing the news of Quaid-e-Azam’s presence in the camp he started chanting madly; ‘Pakistan Zindabad, Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad, Mohsin-e-Islam,Mohsin a Pakistan Zindabad, Paindabad’ and sprinted towards the procession accompanying Quaid-e-Azam. One of the representatives of police dressed in white turned back and prevented him due to which he got outraged. When a principal representative moved forward and tried preventing him he got more infuriated, both of them fell on the floor. The principal representative took hold of his wrists and had put his knee on his back. He laid on the floor, quivering and screaming loudly, Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad, Mohsin-e-Insaniyat Zindabad, Mehboob-e-Awam Zindabad…Zindabad,
