Hearne Elementary Reflection Journal For this clinical rotation, I had three different SMART objectives. These objectives covered what I wanted to learn and accomplish while at Hearne Elementary School. These three objectives are as follows: by the end of the clinical rotation I will identify an abnormal social development response to a social interaction per Wong’s Care of Infants and Children in the first grade, by the end of the clinical rotation I will identify two normal gross motor developments of a first-grade class during recess according to Wong’s Nursing Care of Infant and Children, and by the end of the clinical rotation I will be able to identify the percentage that one class of fifth grade students eat per My Plate guidelines. …show more content…
There are many infants and toddlers who are in a car seat but not buckled in and then there are some that are not even in a car seat. Some cars come through the line and have more than three kids getting out of the backseat or riding in the front seat which is dangerous due to the airbags. Not only is car safety not followed within the car, many of the parents or guardians bring the children would come flying through the line. This is dangerous since there are two lines and the children do not look before walking and most of the time the teachers are not watching or do not catch them before they start walking. The speeding through the line is also dangerous due to a large number of walkers. There is a crosswalk with a crossing guard but this does not mean that the older people, as well as the children, will follow the instruction of the cross guard. Pick up in the afternoon is more stressful than the drop-off. When the bell rings in the afternoon all the walkers come running out and never look before crossing the road. People picking up their children are ready to go as well so they are in a hurry. If someone is not paying attention this could potentially lead to an accident. Children and adults should realize the potential dangers within this area but this does not mean that they will follow the safety guidelines to prevent anything from happening. For children, this is true because they may believe nothing will happen to them, the adult is older so they will watch for me, or they may completely forget for that moment. For the adults, this is true because they may believe they are too old for the rules or the children should know better and will get in trouble if they do not follow the

This elevated crosswalk will have a gate all around the sides and top so the children would be safe going across the crosswalk. There would not be any danger as far as the children being able to fall over the sides of the crosswalk. We would also still use the crossing guard and police officer to ensure the safety of our children as well as the proper flow of traffic. This will eliminate the children from coming into close contact with a vehicle or the busy street. The children will begin to walk up the side of the crosswalk well before coming close to the busy road and when they descend the crosswalk they will be past the dangerous street.…
