“Summer Storm” was a poem that stood out to me as it almost read like a diary page. The author says, “To my surprise, you took my arm- a gesture you didn’t explain- and we spoke in whispers as if we two Might imitate the rain” (Gioia 707). The rhymes in this poem are only used in every other sentence. This makes the poem feel more authentic and real. The author says, “We stood on the rented patio… While the party went on inside… You knew the groom from college… I was a friend of the bride” (Gioia 707). This poem is very personal as the character reflects on the experience in an informal way.
