Angel grew up in Mexico and came to this country when he was 14 years old. He came to this country in 2002 in order to find work so he could help support his family. I know that in this country individuals that are so young don’t usually live and support themselves on their own. He says that he has money in the bank for emergencies, which is something he has always wanted. He is also married with a family now. Angel states that his life has changed largely because of the opportunity to have a job and that’s what lets a person live a decent life. He now has the means to help his parents, have a roof over his head, and have food to eat.
I asked him if he would recommend that others come to the United States and his response was, “definitely, but only if they are willing to work hard for a better life.” He believes that the United States has lived up to the expectations he had before making the long journey and that the United States has given him a chance to live a decent life without poverty.
In conclusion, I believe that Angel did make a lot of sacrifices to in order to improve his family’s living situation in Mexico and to be completely honest, I’m not sure whether it is something in American culture or just me, but I don’t believe I would have been able to leave everything I knew behind at such a young age in order to help my family like he
