Imagine a future where mothers can afford safe and healthy food, doctors can control obstinate diseases with regenerative medicine, and children can still observe endangered animals in the zoo. Animal cloning can provide help. However, animal cloning has been a controversial issue since the creation of Dolly, the first cloned animal (Fridovich, 2013). As the technology advances, statistics show the percentage of people accepting cloning has been increased (International Food Information Council, 2008). Although some people express concerns over the safety issues and ethical dilemma, animal cloning can be beneficial in many aspects of our lives which outweigh the cons. Three …show more content…
For instance, a cloned gaur was born in India in 2000 (Imsoonthornruksa, etc. 2012). Gaur is an ox-like endangered animal. Scientists put the embryo of a gaur into the womb of a cow. A few months later, the cow gave birth to a cloned gaur. This illustrated that it is possible to use an unendangered species to breed an endangered species. This was a successful attempt at saving an endangered animal by using cloning technology. Increasing the species diversity can be beneficial for the next generations. However, some have argued that if the ecosystem has reached a balanced state, then bringing back endangered species could actually disrupt the harmony of nature. Therefore, scientists claim that this technology should be only used to rescue endangered species caused by mankind. These animals’ extinction rate is approximately 10,000 times higher than the natural extinction rate. Thus, humans should take the full responsibility for creating this disaster that impacts the sustainability of the earth. In the past, individuals and organizations have taken the initiative to protect endangered animals by restoring their habitats. Cloning technology will enable the expansion of these animals’ population so that they are unlikely to become extinct. It is unfortunate that museums have become one of the few places to learn about some species because they have become extinct. Animal cloning will provide opportunities to the future generations so that they can visit live animals that are being led to
