More than 100 million animals are used for testing worldwide. Animal testing is to test products that range from prescription drugs to cosmetics on animals. A way to inform people on how harmful the chemicals are in the products is by explaining how the products are tested on animals. Medicine, household products, cosmetics, and drugs for treatments need to stop being tested on animals. With some preliminary research, I came up with a proposal. I want to research the effect of toxicity testing on animals. The subjection that animals should be tested on for research should be banned because it is ineffective, animal abuse, and there are alternative ways to test a product. …show more content…
I plan to answer questions such as: what toxicity tests are, why are these tests done, how harmful are they to animals, are the results from these valid, the cost of toxicity tests, and if alternative methods are better to use than animals. These animals are subjected to forced feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, infliction of burns and wounds to study the healing process and effects and remedies. Among the cruelest experiments is the Draize eye test which evaluates irritation by shampoos and other products to the eyes. During this experiment rabbits are restrained and their eyelids are held open by clips for multiple days which leads to the death of 50% of rabbits used (Scientific American, "Do Cosmetic Companies Still Test on Live Animals?," scientificamerican.com). In the coming years, hopefully, more regulations can be passed to ensure that all animal’s lives are protected during experimentation. Although most animals are treated with care and no pain is dealt to them when undergoing testing, it would be a lie if I stated no animals are harmed during the process. Animal testing is extremely useful in developing life-saving drugs and medicine.…
