Imagine a person spending their entire life kept in a cage -- away from home, where they are meant to be. Animals in zoos and circuses should not be held captive. Notable reasons why I believe animal captivity is wrong are due to the size and limitations of the living areas these animals are in, the danger these animals possess to humans, and because they are taken from the wild at an early age. Every day, all around the world, animals are held captive under no free will, and every one of those days is a waste of a healthy life for these animals. At SeaWorld San Diego, the parking lot is about twenty times larger than the actual tank the killer whales reside in.…

To help me reach an answer, I will use different philosophers and theories to work out if we are right to do this, or whether it is simply just morally wrong. Arguments against the use of animal captivity will include those from Peter Singer, Tom Regan, John Stuart Mill and Alasdair MacIntyre. Arguments for the use of animal captivity will include those from Immanuel Kant, Aristotle, Carl Cohen and Ernest Partridge. I will also share my results from the questionnaire I conducted and the interview I was lucky enough to have with the Zoo Manager at Flamingo Land to see if his outlook could show animal captivity from a different, possibly more positive light.…

Zoos Are Inhumane Some people believe that animals in the zoo are being treated badly and that they shouldn’t be kept captive. I agree with that because no animal should be treated unfairly and dragged around to please others. Statistic shows that 1,920 cases were reported for animal abuse in zoos. People that work in the zoos don’t realise the harm they are causing to the animals they only care for the money they are getting from torturing the animals.…

All around the world animals are held in captivity for the sole purpose of gaining revenue through entertainment, but by enclosing these animals in small jail cell type configurations, animals are being revoked of their chance to live and grow in natural environments. Animals who are stripped of their rights and chance to grow and thrive in a natural way usually end up developing physical and mental health issues and are more susceptible to problematic diseases. The use of animals in captivity as a source of revenue through corporate entertainment is wrong and punishes animals by disrupting their natural way of living. As a young kid prone to the deception of being easily tricked or opinionated into thinking something was true, I went off with the rest of my family to the Cleveland Metro Park Zoo.…

Although this article says lots of bad things about zoos they explain that some zoos are helpful, according to “Reasons To Rethink Zoo,” it says “Some zoos have something called reintroduction programs. According to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, reintroduction programs are programs where animals are rehabilitated from injuries or illness, or situations where they are found away from their home and need to be relocated. Once an animal fully recovers, they are then released back into the wild.” This provides evidence that zoos are trying to change the way they treat animals, but some zoos already treat animals well, some zoos have programs that help injured animals get better and when they get better then they are released back into the wild where they came from. Also, according to “Honey I Shrunk the Zoo,” it says “We're not an attraction.…

Menageries allow people to learn about animals from a safe distance and see some animals which they would never have seen if it were not for wildlife parks. Many argue that captive animals are not happy in their environment, and should be set free from zoos in their natural habitat. Although many find captivity cruel and unnecessary, having animals in captivity is beneficial to our society as well as to captive animals because when done right, endangered species are protected and well taken care of, people are able to experience beautiful wildlife,…

People say animal captive is dangerous to the animal. People say zoos are better for animals because it keeps the population of that animal up that way it doesn’t go extinct, but i think the animals should be the wild unless they are tameable animals like dogs, cats, and horses. When the animals are in the zoos they can get small area to climb, fly, swim, roam, or run. If the animals in the zoos were in the wild they can mate, find food, or find water on their own. I have three reasons, why it is important for the animals to run wild, people cutting down trees in the wild, and when they are confined it has a negative impact on their behavior and health.…
