All the violence that is blamed on heavy metal music is really just coming from reality problems. Jack had stated, “I have a hard time with all these people that put down heavy metal bands and say they are satanic and they worship the devil and all this. If you listen to the words in their songs, it’s all reality. Dying is reality, nuclear war is reality, going out and killing somebody is reality, living on the streets is reality, and they talk about reality problems” (Arnett 2). Metal songs do not provoke the listener into violence it is simply a way to release anger positively (Arnett). Most metal bands who do have violent or disturbing lyrics have stated that their music is not to be taken seriously for it is a fabricated for the enjoyment of others. Cannibal Corpse who often describe the more gruesome depictions of killing, loss of lives ,and sexual fetishism. (Black) Metal music is a way teenagers purge their aggressive emotions and impulses instead of partaking in violent acts (Arnett). Meaning Metal music does not cause the anger in teenagers, but helps them release it in a non harmful and nondestructive way (Arnett). Metal music is not the cause for violence in teenagers. Often teenagers seek out metal music as a way to rid of anger from personal situations without violence. Jack had also stated, “I can be real mad, there’s been an abundance of times I’ve been real mad, and I can just listen to a tape and it 's calmed me down. I mean I 've gotten all my feeling and anger out through music, listening to it instead of me going you and bashing somebody’s head in or going out and just raising a bunch of hell.
