The influences of the Cold War infected almost every aspect of the American life including policies of the government. Entertainment was not omitted from the influences of the Cold War. National security agencies encouraged Hollywood to produce anticommunist movies. Even going so far as to encourage scripts be changed to remove references of American History that wasn 't praise worthy (Mickelberry 2009.) Although this did lead to movies that helped spark patriotism, it also raised suspicion of communist activity at every turn. Many were accused of being communists both in and out of Hollywood. Most were false accusations, based on weak evidence (Mickelberry 2009.) Americans felt it was their patriotic duty to buy consumer goods, thus helping the economy. The U.S. became one of the world’s dominant economic powers. Under President Reagan, in the 1980 's the economy was stimulated with tax cuts and deregulation. Federal tax revenue increased dramatically as the economy grew. A good portion of this money was spent on the military(Mickelberry 2009.)
