Assisted living facilities are the fastest growing long-term care resource for senior citizens because of their modern approach to senior care. Unfortunately, elderly citizens face a difficult situation regarding their living situation; as their mobility and physical abilities decrease, the cost of living in America increases. Volunteering at a place such as The Lantern at Morning Pointe appeals to me because I feel strongly about the rights of senior citizens, and I sympathize with those senior citizens who are lonely. When my group arrived at the facility, however, there had been a miscommunication about times and the activities director told us that she had nothing for us to do. Disappointed, we trekked back to the car to go home. Before we left, though, we saw another assisted living facility in walking distance where we were told we were not allowed to volunteer without a background check and the appropriate shots.
