Attentional Blink (AB, or ‘blink’) is “the phenomenon that the second of two targets cannot be detected or identified when it appears close in time to the first.” (Prof. Kimron L. Shapiro) Some experts believe that Attentional blink helps the brain ignore distractions while focusing on the original target. In the Cog Lab demonstration, a series of letters and numbers are flashed on a screen in a rapid sequence. The viewer is asked to look for a certain set of items, for example the number 2 and 7. They must then press a button when they spot the target numbers. In many cases, observers fail to see the second target
