After the trial, Mr. Ewell came up to Atticus, and barbarically threatened his life and then proceeded to spit in his face. For most people, this would drive you to your breaking point, but for Atticus, all he could do is see the brighter side of things. “I destroyed his last shred of credibility at that trial, if he had any to begin with. The man had to have some kind of comeback, his kind always does. So if spitting in my face and threatening me saved Mayella one extra beating, that’s something I’ll gladly take,” (Lee, 218). Atticus didn’t fight back and didn’t hold anything against Mr. Ewell, but instead he took the high road, and accepted that people are who they are and we can’t change that. This action was questioned by many of the people Atticus hold dearly, including his sister and children. Atticus heard what they had to say on the matter, and yet he still stuck to his gut and didn’t hold a grudge against a man that couldn’t help but subside to his lowly
