A babysitter is responsible for paying attention to what the child is doing, making sure the child is not starving, helping the child to grow knowledgeable while with him or her and caring about the child’s wee-being. An example of how I help Nathan grow knowledgeable is having him to count with me while we are playing. Just by adding in new words or numbers while playing would be a great idea for any sitter. Babysitters are responsible for the protection of the kid, so if the kid gets sick the parents expect for the sitter to tell them when they get home or call them and take care of the child until they can get back home. Parents do not want a sitter that will not acknowledge their kid and use the time to be on his or her phone the whole time or inviting people over, that is irresponsible. To be a babysitter this is a must because this kind of job is all about talking to each other. You have to talk to the child for hours while playing and making sure his or her needs are met while you are on the job. Also, you will be communicating with the parents about when you are going to be back to watch him or her, new things about the child, new rules about the house, and so much more. No parent wants their babysitter to be a smart-mouth rude person to watch their child whether if the sitter acts like that to the child or not. I personally think it is a great thing for a sitter to be able to joke around with the parents like I do Nathan’s parents but at the same time, he or she will have to watch how much they joke. Sitters need to watch that because he or she could start to get a smart-mouth with the parent every time they ask or tell the sitter something. Which could lead to that sitter losing their job. Parents expect their babysitter to tell them some stories about what happened and how their child was that day, not some kind of smart-mouth rude comment. By having great communication skills with the parents you will not be afraid to tell them if you cannot work a certain day because of something important (not because you just want off) or to share stories with
