The Lord was trying to show his domination over the other deities during that time, but in today’s society, the majority of people understand the Lord’s power or heard of stories about His acts. Jesus also taught to love your enemies, so most Christians who take Jesus’s teachings seriously would not seek violence on their enemies.
2. Read chapter 7, "The Sin of Achan and Its Punishment." Walk in the shoes (empathize) of Joshua and defend why the consequences of Achan's sin are appropriate. How does our perspective (or worldview) differ in this regard? The Lord informed Joshua that if the devoted things were not destroyed from the Israelites then the Lord no longer would be with Joshua. “Therefore the Israelites are unable to stand before their enemies; they turn their backs to their enemies, because they have become a thing devoted for destruction themselves. I will be with you no more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you” (7:12). Joshua had to punish Achan of his stealing because if no punishment was conducted, then the Lord would have left Joshua and the Israelites would have vanished. Joshua was a strong leader and feared God, so he took the appropriate measures to ensure the Lord would be on his
