Genetic Engineering Genetic Engineering is the modification of something’s genetic makeup by using artificial means. There are many benefits of which this could be used. Many of these are not necessary which is why there should be limits. The people should be allowed to use genetic engineering but the government should limit the use to only be allowed for serious medical reasons. The reasons why genetic engineering should not be allowed for anything but medical purposes is that the rich would be the only people who would be able to afford the treatment, people could be genetically engineered for bad purposes, the problems it could be used for may be too minor, and it’s not natural. As it states in Source A “ Even without a ban, it will be upper-class parents who can afford pricey genetic technologies. “ this evidence shows that if their was no limits to genetic engineering then the rich people would become even more elite because not only would they have money but they also would not be plagued with the common genetic disease that the rest of the population would have to deal with. Also in Source A it states “Sooner or later, as the most glaring genetic liabilities will drift toward the bottom of the socioeconomic scale,” This evidence shows that as time goes by the genetic problems such as ADHD would only affect the people who are lower class. It is not natural for babies to be modified in a laboratory. As it states in source b “We barely paused to consider the strangeness of originating human life in the laboratory”. This evidence shows that as the debate went on about the of genetic engineering people barely even thought about how weird it is for humans to have kids from laboratories. If this happens then the people would no longer have a choice in careers and people would be engineered to do certain jobs to make a perfect world.
