There is one country that has experienced a minimalism boom, and that’s Japan. Japan has been embracing the minimalist lifestyle for a few years now, because they find it less stressful and wasteful. Japanese have been influenced to be more minimalist from the teachings Zen Buddhism. It teaches people not to hold onto things that don’t provide happiness or go unused. Some take it farther by not even having a bed, but rather a cushion on the floor with a blanket. That’s a little extreme but so long as they are happy, it doesn’t matter. Minimalism also sometimes gets confused with the Tiny House movement, where people move into small spaces to live a simpler lifestyle. The two are very similar since people who live in Tiny Houses must get rid of a large amount of their stuff, so they can fit in the tiny house.
