Web. 2 Feb. 2017. Adoption has been around for thousands of years, but adoption in the US can be traced back to the 1850s. The first adoption law in the US was in Massachusetts and was considered modern. The law recognized adoption as a legal and social process based on welfare rather than adult regard. This era was the beginning of orphan trains that moved children from New York to all around the US and Canada.

A open adoption is where the birth and adoptive parents make a deal from anything to a picture or a phone call.
