Brent is now the senior vice president and president of brain therapies division at Medtronic. Medtronic is a global leader in medical technology, services, and solutions.
Brent talked about how he got to where he is and what he did to be successful. He had really good information for us to learn. He told us to find a mentor. This doesn’t mean that working is all a person should do. He explained that aside from working hard at your job it is also important to take time for other passions. During these “off” times is when many ideas occur. He also made a point to volunteer. During these times not only are you helping a cause or community, but you make many connections within a community which will help in the long run. Overall, he came back to his main point in the speech. Be curious, takes risks or try new ideas to push the company to the next level. For example, Medtronic is testing new products that allow people with Parkinson’s disease to stop shaking. This device requires surgery to implant a device into the brain of the patient. He even showed comparison when the device is on and off, which is a huge difference. Another said to embrace diversity. There are many different beliefs and ideas that come from working in a diverse company. If everyone is thinking the same way in a company they will not be able to test different ideas or ways of thinking and may fall behind in the industry. Diversity allows a company to view different ideas which could lead to the next big thing in the market and would push the company ahead by being the first in the market and could possible create a brand name for that

My overall goal in life is to wake up every morning and not dread going to work. I want to be able to face a new challenge, help others, and make a difference no matter how big or small. I want to take pride into what I do and not just think of my job as an action to survive. I believe it is difficult to do so in a scene where a good handful of people do not give you the full respect deserved. In the article “Congregation Gone Wild”, G. Jeffrey MacDonald claims that Congregations have shifted their way of approaching their audience in order to “sooth” churchgoers and keep them on their side.…

Productivity A common trait among highly successful people is taking action, so be productive! Being busy doesn’t translate to productivity as we are always engaged in one activity or the other at every point in our lives-it could be sitting, working, breathing, eating, cooking, sleeping, chatting, etc. Rather than focusing on just any action, outcomes matter the most. When you care about the results of your actions, the zeal to get the most of that activity is unwavering.…
