The abstract conveys information regarding the purpose, methods, and results of the experiment. In the case of Danyagri and Dang’s “Effects of elevated [CO2] and soil temperature on photosynthetic responses of mountain maple (Acer spicatum L.) seedlings to light”, the abstract conveyed that the purpose of the experiment was to predict how plants will distribute themselves in the future with varying conditions including changes in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and soil temperatures at varying light intensities. They examined what would occur by doing exactly so; by altering [CO2] and soil temperatures, and found that there would likely be an increase in growth of Acer spicatum L. with increased [CO2], but not with increased soil temperatures (at higher light levels).

1. The purpose of the literature review in the introduction is to enhance the information that the authors are providing the reader by specifying what results they are expecting to find with reasons behind their predictions. The literature review in the introduction also includes cited sources, which allows the authors to enhance their own information with support from these qualified sources, in order to set an educated hypothesis for this experiment.
2. What is different about the research in this study than that of other researchers on the same topic, is that in this experiment, an investigation on how different levels of [CO2] and different levels of soil temperature affect how the mountain maple, (a shade-tolerant species), functions under high-light environments. This is a topic that is not well known and therefore, this study hopes to shed some light on this topic and “fill in the gaps” in present research on this
