This desire was thus the impetus behind my matriculation into various groups on campus that sought to provide for the Providence Community. The time I have spent in these groups, have given me experience in advising high school and middle school students. Advising has given me skills like working one-on-one with students with the goal of establishing study habits and strategies to succeed academically. Advising has also permitted me the chance to speak and present to large groups of students. I’m cooperative and love to work in groups with others. Furthermore, I am an individual that values organization and planning, so these are skills I’ll bring to the position and pass on to those undergraduates I’ll be advising. The most important ability that I will certainly bring to this position, however, is my own personal experience. I have a background as a former economics major, and so I am very familiar with the amount of studying and wealth of resources available on campus to succeed in that field. For …show more content…
I was responsible for recruiting high school students to the afterschool SAT prep program, and recruiting Brown University students to serve as Math and Verbal coaches. Most importantly, I was responsible for creating a culture of college readiness. This meant giving students information about financial aid, scholarship, other programs that could assist them, and creating a space where students were eager to learn both SAT material, and the possibilities available to them beyond high

To be a Berea College student in the 21st century is to be given the opportunity of a lifetime- a high quality, rigorous, but ultimately low-cost education. Berean students have a very close-knit and involved community due to the small size of the student body, and this community has been found to be both united and separated during different periods in the college’s history, often involving politics.
