1. Analyze and explain the situation using any of the theories discussed in this chapter.
According to this scenario, when the young pastor first arrived at the independent church, he was full of energy and wanted to be a great leader while performing his duties. Also, he was certainly looking for having a good impact on the members of this community, as well as helping the church to accomplish many things by identifying the congregation’s goals. However, although he was very confident that he would be a good pastor, most of the member of the congregation did not demonstrate the same enthusiasm as he was probably expecting, mainly, because he was viewed as an inexperienced pastor.
Now, from what I can infer, the pastor started with a democratic style so the church’s members would be more involved in the decision-making process and to see what kind of goals each of the members wanted to pursue. As stated by the textbook, “a democratic leader uses this style with the sole purpose to share the decision-making process between the leader and the group” (Rue, Ibrahim, & Byars, 2013).
