Brutus on the other hand doesn’t chase power or care about how much power he has. Everything he does is what he believes is the best for Rome. In the same speech after the death of Caesar he also says “ but because i cared for Rome more.” He is saying that he cared not less of Caesar but that he cared more for rome. The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, is a story of betrayal and mistrust between powerful men. The four main characters show potential to be incredible leaders, however they each have major flaws which would eventually lead to their downfall. Readers often wonder which of these men would have been the “best” leader, but when one analyzes this question, it becomes clear that it is Brutus. Brutus, like the other men, has both positive and negative traits; but he is the only character in the story whose actions are genuinely selfless, Brutus believes that his actions will eventually benefit his country. Shakespeare portrays Julius Caesar as constantly feeding his ego by acquiring more power, Antony, another potential leader, was…

Brutus: Patriot Brutus from William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar was the ultimate patriot not a traitor, which is a subject that is still highly debated today. Brutus proves he is a patriot when he has to be deceived to be able to kill Caesar, did not spill any more blood then had to be spilt, and was even said to be a patriot by his sworn enemies. However, Brutus also accepted lies very readily, killed one of his close friends, and was called a traitor by his close friend.…

In the beginning of the play we get an idea of what kind of character Julius Caesar is when a soothsayer warns him in the street of Rome “Beware the ides of March” (Act 1, Scene 2) and he simply dismisses what the man said, thinking it is not important. Julius Caesar often thinks of himself higher than everyone else as well as refers to himself in the third person. Caesar’s behavior bothers Cassius and many other noblemen as we learn throughout the first three Acts. Cassius begins to convince noblemen like Brutus (a very well respected person in public eye) that Caesar is not fit to rule Rome and must be dealt with.…

Cassius portrays Caesar to the other conspirators, stating, "Poor man, I know he would not be a wolf / But that he sees the Romans are but sheep;" (I.iii.104-105). The conspirators are able to see Caesar 's ambition and how it will continue to grow, justifying their need to kill him. In some ways, they know more about Caesar than he does himself. Caesar presents a facade not only outward, but also to himself; he blinds himself with his arrogance leaving himself open to the manipulation of the conspirators.…

We both have fed as well, and we can both / Endure the winter’s cold as well as he” (I.ii.99-101). What Cassius implies by saying this is that Caesar does not have any special attributes and should not be protected. He is not someone sent from the gods to better Rome, and should not be treated so. The Romans, however, do not believe this, and think Caesar could do no harm, because of what they hear of him. They do not hear of the bad he does, and are left in the dark.…

1.1 -In this scene, Flavius speaks to the Roman crowd about how they use to climb up as high as they could “To see great Pompey pass the streets of Rome” but now they “make holiday to see Caesar,” Pompey’s known rival (1.1.34,47). The crowd of Rome seems to be very unreliable in terms of who they are willing to praise as their leader. They just flock to the one who has all the power and are not truly loyal to anyone. -When Flavius is parting with Marullus, he compares Caesar to a bird and tells Marullus “These growing feathers plucked from Caesar’s wings / Will make him fly an ordinary pitch” (1.1.77-78).…
