Charles Darwin was born in England February 12th, 1809. At the age of 18 he embarked on a five year voyage aboard the HMS Beagle. The ship was taking a survey voyage around the world to collect and study plants, wildlife, fossils and the local environments of numerous countries. On December 27th, 1831 the voyage took off and over the years Darwin collected specimens, including plants, fossils, birds and other wildlife. South America and the Galapagos were of great interest to him. He was given the unique opportunity to study up close specimens that most in that time were unable to.
When Darwin returned to England he started writing about his findings in Captain FitzRoy’s journal, The Zoology of the Voyage of The Beagle. …show more content…
On November 24th, 1859 he published his best known work, On the Origins of Species by Means of Natural Selection. He died on April 19th, 1882.
Throughout the century as we research DNA we have revealed more evidence pointing towards Darwin’s Theory being correct. Over one hundred years later his findings are still controversial due to its conflict with Creationism.
I admire Charles Darwin both as a Scientist and for his courage to go against the establishment at the time, forcing people to question what they had been taught to believe and expand their knowledge about the world and living species.
