When we think of a child, we imagine the child playing happily, living life to the fullest. Now, when we hear the word abuse, right away we think of woman abuse instead of child abuse. Under the laws of the United States, anyone under eighteen is considered a minor or in other words a child, which then divides into categories by age range. But what is child abuse, and how is it involved with criminal justice?
Child abuse is, “child maltreatment, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, and many other types of harm” (NCJRS). In other words, anything that causes pain in anyway, can cause trauma or a serious effect in the lives of these fallen angels. It is an effort to reduce human trafficking for sexual business into the United States, as well to protect them. This act makes abusers aware that if they do these unnamable deeds, they will face serious consequences and end up paying fines, “from $10,000 to $100,000 and, on a subsequent conviction, from $15,000 to $200,000. Sets a fine of $250,000 for organizations” (Congress.Gov). Depending on the case and the effect that caused the victim, the fine raises. When a case is going to open the victim chooses whether if s/he wants to open it under the criminal justice system or the civil justice system. The difference in both is that the criminal case requires, ‘“proof beyond a reasonable doubt,”’ (Victims of crime) while the civil case, “ liability must be proven in each process” (Victims of Crime). The criminal justice system presses charges against the offender and the point is to see if s/he is innocent or not. A civil justice system is just to see how much would be the fine such as the ones talked
