The percent of children struggling from childhood obesity has tripled since the 1970s, and today, one in five school children have obesity. Children at or above the ninety-fifth percentile have obesity. The long-term effects that have impacts on children are physical, social, and emotional. The long-term effects are the children having a higher risk for asthma, sleep apnea, bone and joint problems, type two diabetes, hypertension, early puberty, Blount’s disease inflammation of the liver, and risk factors for heart disease.
