The chivalry has 6 basic principles; Courage, strength, skill, honor, loyalty, and courtesy. With these principles they could be accepted in society and more joyous in the community. Barbara Tuchman outlines knights as a person who must dedicate his time and life to being a knight, and who is brave and does not fear the work. Barbara Tuchman states that “loyalty is the chivalry fulcrum” and with loyalty chivalry is dominant.
In the “Knight's tale” it shows Chivalry when Palamon and Arcite fall in love with the same girl. the rule of chivalry, which demands knights keep their oaths, was tested when both fell in love with the same girl. Instead of breaking their oath, they came up with another solution. Fight for her and whoever wins get her hand of love.
In the “wife of Bath’s Tale” chivalry is used in this tale when young lusty knight came across a maiden and decides to rape her. The chivalry code asserts that Knight's vowed to protect and keep them safe. The Knight went against his oath and broke the chivalry code. the Knight was suppose to be put to death immediately for going against his oath, But he was given a preposition that he must find out what women mostly desire in a relationship. Scared for his life, he goes door by door searching for an answer. The answers were all different until he came across an old woman who knew the answer but in return wanted anything in return for her
