The Act is to make sure that there is a common minimum level of civil protection right across the United Kingdom. This act is to provide all organisations and agencies to be able to plan and prepare as best as they can for both local and national emergencies. The Act can provide a good insight into the way the emergencies services and other responding agencies should cooperate to ensure the best results when working together.
In the act it outlines and classifies which of the organisations and agencies are responsible for responding to different emergencies and to do this it classiies them as ether Caegory 1 or category 2 responders. Category 1 responders are those at the centre of emergency responses because they include the coastguard, local authorities, health care trusts and the Environment Agency. These category 1 responders have six duties which will be explained later. Category 2 responders arent as directly involved with planning for emergencies but they have more of an imporrtant role in the emergency situation itself.
