I have begun doing personal photography for friends and family, and hope to make photography a side career in my future. This year, I had the opportunity to win three Scholastic Art & Writing awards. I won two awards in digital art, an honorable mention and one silver key, and also one honorable mention in photography. All of these achievements have made me become more confident in myself and my art, and inspired me to try and practice more styles of art than I am originally used to. The pottery classes I have taken in high school helped me learn more about designs and helped improve my 2D art, although I was not the best at 3D art. The techniques I learned in pottery also led me to improvements in my drawing classes. I was able to recognize more mistakes that I could easily fix, and helped me be able to retain more information and critiques my art teachers have given

Engaging children to be creative and imaginative allows them to focus their concentration this develops their fine motor skills as well their eye coordination (Eugster, 2016). During school I felt Art was the only subject I felt comfortable in as I was able to be myself. My art teacher gave us different materials and equipment to play with through painting, sketching, collaging and clay I was able to work through emotions and make decisions which I felt was right, this allowed me to express my ideas. During lessons my teacher would never give us set tasks or directions she would always say think outside the box, be as creative and imaginative as you want. This made me comfortable in having full control over materials and what to do with them.…

This semester I decided to take an Expressive Arts in Education class and it changed my life. In this class, I found out a new version of myself and my ability to do something and be creative. It was not just “an art class”, I am sure that not only me but my classmates walked out that class with so many new things that as a student I was never expecting. I clearly developed my creative art connection, how to combat the fear of the unknown and fear of judgment, and how to open myself not only in an art classroom but in my everyday life.…

By attending an art and fashion school is New York City, it is evident that people have gone through different forms of education and have experienced aspects of their education that was meaningful to them. Not only was the education of the pre-college art school and art classes at high school itself necessary, but so was the mentor-student relationship I had with my teacher at Mill Street Loft, and my Advanced Placement Studio Art teacher, as well. They showed how important the arts are, and that a degree in the commercial arts is important. Since education comes in many forms, my experience at a pre-college art school and my art class in high school made me realize that pursuing a degree in the arts was the only fit for me.…
