I enjoy reading, and have a tendency to easily obsess over new words, quotes, Nicolas Spark’s novels, and organized libraries. My determined mind helps me to have the ability to read and write as I wish. Similarly, I also love planners and pens that help me stay organized when I set goals to accomplish an objective. I obsess over smiles, laughter, music, the color pink, and kind gestures because these help me always be positive and optimistic, and see the better side of every situation. When I was a toddler, my dad always told me to “BYB,” meaning to “be my best.” I’ve always taken this to heart and have tried my best in everything I do. Outdoor activities and sports such as tennis, cross country, track, jeeping, hiking, and mountain-biking help me realize I am capable of much more than what I thought was possible. On a different note, I’ve also been blessed with musical talents such as singing and playing that piano. Through this, I’ve accomplished tasks I never thought were possible without hard work, the drive, and dedication. I also enjoy developing talents that will help me with possible future occupations. For example, doodling, calligraphy, and writing on my iPad help me to not only practice these skills, but to also learn the programs and systems used. Finally, a few time wasters help me to relax and have the necessary down time in everyday life. These are shopping, texting, and watching

Before beginning the wellness planning process, it was beneficial to review several articles by Margaret Swarbrick that explained the wellness approach, process and benefits. One key concept explained by Swarbrick (2006) was that “wellness is a conscious, deliberate process that requires a person to become aware of and make choices for a more satisfying lifestyle” (pg. 311). To begin this process, I asked myself two questions, “am I aware of myself as a whole person” and “can I identify my own strengthens and weaknesses within my eight dimensions of wellness?” After completing the wellness planning tool, I realized that in some aspects I do well and in others I know that I can do better than what I am doing now. The first step of this…

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a value as “something (as a principle or quality) intrinsically valuable or desirable. As a twenty-two-year-old starting a new chapter in the book of life, my experiences have been rich in diversity and helped form my value system. This system affects my actions as well as my thoughts while cultivating my identity. Five values that stand out in my system of values are fidelity, altruism, helping, perseverance, and resourcefulness. At the core of my identity, I place the most weight on fidelity because it shows commitment, allows the building of trust in the presence of honesty, and exhibits an individual’s ability to carry out his/her promises.…

Throughout my life, I have had a variety of hobbies; I would become deeply invested in a hobby for a few months, but suddenly I would become uninterested. When I was younger, I danced; ballet and tap practices would fill my nights, but that did not last for long. Ultimately, I knew that driving there every night strained our schedules and I did not have passion for it anymore, so I discarded that hobby. After that, I became interested in sports; I devoted my time to basketball camps and pick-up games. Although I enjoyed basketball, I never played for the school and I stopped playing altogether by the time high school started.…

The key to success in any endeavor is motivation. This elusive personal characteristic is complex and different for each individual. What makes a person strive to be the best, to do his best, to work longer, harder, better? Motivation can be intrinsic, coming from inside as in a person with a strong desire to compete and win, or extrinsic, emanating from somewhere outside oneself such as a desire to for money or to provide for family, or to make others proud.…

This semester, I set up a goal for myself: I would do one thirty-minute work-out video everyday for at least five days of each week. At the beginning, I felt excited and ready, but then I was extremely disappointed in myself for choosing something that, based off of past experience, I was not going to accomplish. Per result of my own negativity, I made little effort at first to work out. My initial priority was my education - getting A’s in my classes and manufacturing my academic résumé to appear more desirable to graduate schools. I felt myself growing more apprehensive by the day as it became clearer to me that I was not going to accomplish my goal.…
